I am in the process of rejetting a VM33 Smoothbore assembly. Just curious... do you have a set of these on your bike? What jetting are your using? Main Jet? Pilot Jet? Do you have pods/aftermarket pipes? The old Sudco recommendations I have are all over the place. Thanks in advance.

Hi George. I have a set on mine .Mine have been ported on the air intake side only for smoother flow.I have 132.5 mains. not sure of the pilots.Mine is running lean right now in the mid and mains.Plugs are white .Should I go up 1 size or 2(or more)?Funny you should post this.I was just going to ask you if I could rejet 1 carb only just to speed up the prosses?Then when i get the jetting right I would change the rest.Also I have a set( all sizes) of small round mains but the vm33's use large round mains.Could I use a small round to do the testing and then order the large round mains?::side:

I have the factory recomendations .And the parts list and diagram fron 1983, if that is any help let me know.

I have two set so of Sudco specs and would appreciate if you typed in yours. I will try and remember to type mine out. Also, please check your pilot jet size if it isn't too much trouble. I would guess that based on the venturi size and if you are running pod air filters, you would need about #140 mains. You say you are running lean? A sure sign is running out of gas at a specific RPM. What rpm does you bike start having trouble? On a BS34 (same venturi size), a #132.5 main will run out of gas at about 6500-7000 rpm on a stock KZ900. I would guess that a VM33 w/ #132.5 mains would be about the same. Again, please check your pilot jet size if you could; that would help a lot.

Do I have to remove the carbs to get at the mains ,needdle,and pilots? Or is there a trick you use to get at them?my mains are 132.5 Needle is 1 slot below mid.Not shure what the pilot is.I Have brown plugs at low rpm and white at mid and full throttle.I get a bog when i turn the throttle hard from 0 to 5500 rpm.ok above that.I will have to tape and mark my grip to find exactly which part of the carb i'm dealing with.

The pilot jets are the smallish ones used on the VM24 as well... they are BS22/210 type (I think that is their nomenclature). They sit up in a well and you will have to unscrew one to get the number which is small and generally on the side (if it is a Mikuni product). You could probably pull a bowl with the carbs on the bike and get a screwdriver up in there but it sure would be easier to pull the carbs off.

This info is from Mikuni America Feb. 1983.Testing was done with K&N Pods & DBAE Baffle from Kerker.The use of Velocity stacks or a stock air box with a Kerker system generally necessitates the use of an air jet 1 or 2 sizes larger than listed above for the K&N,Kerker combo.

Man that was hard.I'm not very good with typing.Hope this helps.Can I use the smallround type mains for testing purposes George?They seem to be the same, if they will seat ok.
