I used to buy O-ring material from Ga Rubber and cut to size
You cut it on the bias, about 60 degrees to the axis, and use super glue. They kit companies are selling O-rings made of the wrong material if it's expanding. I've seen the same thing with float valve O-rings if I don't specify the right ind.

I'm gonna be doing some CB650 carbs early next month and appresiate the heads up on the problem. Will probably lok on www for source of fuels resistant material and make my own rings after reading this thread. Unless, the bowl edgesare falt enough, in wjich cace, I'll just whittle something out of the nitrile rubber gasket sheet material from the autoparts store.
Have a mess of it from other projects

Anybody got a decent CB650 gas tank cheap?
Mine is full of rust and giant flakes of some sort of misapplied polymer tank coating crap.

Hope to get CB650 in decent shape for winter solstice gift to my brother.

There's a wide variety of qualities of "O" rings on the market. A bunch are trash from China. Basically look for some assurance that they are neoprene not rubber. Look for a manufacturer that has any status or at least an address. As for using gasket sealant on a carb float bowl, Bad JuJu! if the O ring's not sealing solve the real problem. Don't goop it up with something that you'll have to clean up later.

well the theory of the float level being off has been quickly shot down. I measured and they are right on spot. What could be causing the gas in the oil then? Duck would should I look for as far as gasket material and where can I get it and can a use just a utility knife?

Thanks,
Nate

You don't goop up anything as long as you just put a small streak in the bottom of the groove before you put in the o-ring. I don't use it to make a seal, but to keep the o-ring in the groove. And it's much easier to remove than superglue.

When you encounter an O-ring problem like this try to get Viton O-ring material instead on Buna N - it is a much better quality material.

I'm sorry I 'm just getting really desperate at this point. I have a question though how does fuel get that high anyway? Is the float and needle supposed to stop that anyway? BTW I have cleaned the carbs, replaced the float needles and the floats have no cracks. Also do you think K&L Carb gaskets would solve my problem/be better than keyster?

Thanks,
Nate
