Vm Cutaway modif?
25 Aug 2026 08:02
Hello, I drilled my air corrector to 0.6 instead of 0.5 and nothing change about my Rich cruising.. but half and wot is lean now.. grrr.
im planning to modify my Cutaway with the machinist over there.. what is the angle he needs to cut? And how many material needs to be remove? Thank you very much

The cutaway number (ie. your #1.75 etc) is not a measurement in mm
The number comes from the Amal method of identifying the size of the cutaway.
Each whole number on a Mikuni round slide carb represents 1/16" of cutaway from the bottom of the slide to the top of the cutaway.
Each .5 is an additional 1/32" and each 0.25 is an additional 1/64" .
1.0 cutaway = 1/16"
2.0 cutaway = 2/16"
2.5 cutaway = 5/32"
3.0 cutaway = 3/16"
3.5 cutaway = 7/32"
If machining the cutaway do not move the point where the cutaway meets the bottom edge like you have marked on the slide in the pic.
You should start by increasing the cutaway to a 2.0 = 2/16" (3.175mm ) at it's highest point.

I dont really understand where I need to cut them. +0.5mm on the center to the corner? I need to keep the corner intact and remove materials in center?

Your slides are currently a 1.75 cutaway so the next stock size would be 2.0.
The arc of the cutaway should be lifted by 1/64" ( 0.4mm max to make it simpler ) at the highest centre point and tapered back in a smooth curve to zero at the corner where the current arc begins.

Thank you, I just measured them and on the table up to arc I get 0.130 “ (1/8-3.3mm) !! Weird that it mentions 1.75 in it

You should really go 1/64" (0.4mm) at a time.
It's not easy to add material back on if you go too far..

If you remember my cruising is 10.5-11afr. You think 0.4 will make a noticeable difference?

The slide cutaway mainly affects 1/8 to to 1/4 throttle so small changes to the cutaway height will make the most difference in this area.
Whether an initial 0.4mm lift will give the required result won't be known until it is tried.

Ideally you would have another set of slides to experiment on.
As long as you can get all the cutaways the same i would modify the slides myself with a half round needle file given the small amount that needs removing at each stage.
