hello people I am building a 1420 street motor for my bike, I wondered what carbs other people were running on similar setups

Uhm??
1 - it is a motorcycle
2 - it has an engine
3 - it runs on gasoline
Need more info!

What setup? What does the shop that opened up the ports recommend?

How big are your intake ports?

its a 79 kz1000 , I have not had any work done yet I have just bought a wiseco kit to put on, its a 13.5 compression one but I intend to change this as its too high for street really , its very much in the early stages of development just fishing for info before I start

Ok, so this will be a street bike, not a race bike.
You are right about the compression. Even at 11or 12 you will most likely need a stronger starter from a CB750. www.kzrider.com/forum/4-electrical/59153...starter-into-gpz1100

The cams, valves, porting and carbs need to be chosen together so they complement rather than conflict each other. For a street bike, you will likely want a really strong mid-rpm punch. The ports and valves will need to be sized and shaped to be optimal at that rpm range, and carbs to suit the rest. An experienced engine shop like Cavenaugh Racing or APE will have invaluable knowledge and experience in such matters.

Remember years ago Dale Walker building a 1385cc street bike and having a full article in either Cycle world or Motorcyclist..... Was always one of his biggest fans and fell in love with the bike...... things have improved a lot over the years but you might be able to find some info on that by googling it ? .......Ok I had that a little off looked on his site and it was in Hot Bike mag in 82 and was a 1394, 10.5 to 1 with stage 1 Toshi cams and 33mm smooth bores.
