Hi there. This is the first time I have posted on the forum. I have a 1976 KZ400. Its in good shape and runs well. Only problem is the petcock. I have new packing in it but it seems to be leaking around the bowl seal. I am wondering if there are any aftermarket petcocks or if anyone has any ideas about replacing the old petcock with something new? I am going to try to get a new bowl to valve oring and maybe put some pipe tape on the bowl threads. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It is not absolute the petcock bowl gasket.
Have you inspect the tank to petcock threads?
Some pictures of the leak and petcock would help a lot.

The four-hole packing has been unobtainable for a great while so not sure what yours was rebuilt with. The early CB750 four hole will work.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationDiagram and some parts located here: www.cmsnl.com/kawasaki-kz400d3-1976-cana...t/52464.html#results

The strainer and fuel cock cup gasket are the 2 hardest parts to locate, but not impossible. Link below to the gasket. Dont see a strainer for sale right now anywhere, but I did search for a few months until one popped up for sale.

Here are the pics of what I am looking at. I found a four-hole packing on ebay that said it was the original oem part number. It seemed to fit. I previously bought one that was the completely wrong size. Any help would be appreciated. I am looking forward to riding, but need to figure out fuel leak first. ThatGPzGuy, you said that the CB750 packing would work?

If you are going to take the time to disassemble the petcock, you might as well replace everything that could be old or worn out (gaskets etc). Most likely there is some dirt build up on the strainer and the gaskets are worn out. My strainer had a hole in it, which little pieces of dirt started building up on the gaskets and started leaking.

Here is a pic of my bike. I ordered the KZ cup gaskets/packing, CB750 rebuild kit with orings and packing, and a KZ fuel cup oring. Something should make it stop leaking. I will let you know. Thanks for all of the advice.

Do you know if the screen for the old (1969-74) CB750 will work in the KZ400 1974-78 petcock?

No IIRC. I don't run one in mine and just use an in-line fuel filter.

I finally got it to stop leaking. I was missing the framing of the old screen. I put that up in there along with the o-ring from the cb750 rebuild kit and no leaks. Thanks for all of the advice. I will definitely come here when I have other issues.
