1980 kz1000 LTD accelerator pump carb question
05 Oct 2011 01:53
i have an 80 LTD1000, it has the carbs with the accelerator pump built in, why did kawasaki do this?are they interchangeable with non acc pump carbs?
has anybody put a set of 26s with acc pump vs 26s w/o on a dyno and compared? i saw a similar set on ebay that look like crap and they are approaching $200, why? can one of you wise men enlighten me please?
heres the ebay link

I'm curious too. I have an internally stock KZ900 that I use daily- I need needles and needle jets for it to run perfectly on my VM26s. I'm toying with the idea of finding a set of the Z1 VM28s, but the accelerator pump crossed my mind- would such a set up be good for daily use?

the only pumper carbs i remember seeing are the 79-80 28s,it was to compensate the emissions/jetting.
the 28 pumpers are actually decent carbs

I've heard they were decent carbs too- which is why I'm considering them. I'd like to get a set of 28s, like the Z1s had and remember seeing a set of 28 pumpers, which, theoretically, should make the bike a little more livable in daily use.

Correct- didn't the 28 pumpers only come on the '78 Z1Rs?

mine are on an 80 ltd, they have the three screws on top and no 17mm pilot jet access nut on bottom, i assumed they were 26s but if they are 28s that would make me happy, i had read the 28s had 2 screws on top and the 17mm nut on bottom, can anyone confirm these are 26s or 28s? i can post a pic if neccesary, but they are the same as the ones in the fleabay link

My 76 frankenbike came with vm28 pumpers. After last winters rejetting, the bike ran like crap. For the life of me I could not get the bike to idle down at all. I mush have taken the damn things off over 2 dozen times to check/clean/ajust this and that. Somehow the pilots become blocked. I got a set of correct 76 carbs that had been rebuilt and stock jetted just to see how the bike would run. I got the bike running with the pumper carbs real good so the other carbs are just sitting. Im tempted to do some sort of back to back testing on them to see the difference myself

28mm pumpers are not a z1r only deal tho.
ltd's also had them.
i think most 79/80's got em.
