KZ1100 runs with enricher on only

Went back down to the barn, took 'em off, parted them all again, and started from scratch. The (large)fuel transfer hole between the idle & main jets was clean on all carbs. the small hole where the air screw seats was clear. I sprayed carb cleaner at each of the 2 smaller holes in the idle circuit and sprayed through the 2 holes on either side of the intake end of the carb, repeated this several times. Blew them out with compressed air several times. Looked with a dental mirror... eyes too old & holes too small & dark. Took a single strand of tinned copper wire from a piece of #14, bent it at a right angle and worked 3 or 4 mm into each of the holes. Bent the "L" a little longer and worked in some more. All 4 of the holes furthest back in the carb bore bound up at about 6 or 7 mm and then the wire pushed in some more, about 10mm total. Did this a couple of times to each, then back to the carb cleaner & compressed air. When I blow air through the small holes on the sides of the intake end of the carb, it immediately dries a small puddle of cleaner sitting over the tiny holes at the butterfly. Broke one of the circlips putting the enrichers back on the rod... so tomorrow I'll remedy that and try them out again. So tonite it's into town on the Voyager for pizza Appreciate the advice... will report back.

Yesterday, put 'em back on and started real hard, would only run with enricher... went and put a new heater core in my blazer...Today, turned the air screws in so only a half turn out. It started hard, enricher only. Off they came. Got in the book, checked float height, all were high (resulting in low level of fuel)so I set them. I set them measuring from the surface that the gasket actually seats on, they had been about a mm above the aluminum flange (or 3-4mm off??) Started right up, short warmup with the box fan runnin'...pushed the enricher in one notch...kept running. Enricher all the way in and still running, popping back somewhat, but still running. Getting closer. right now: 125 mains, 40 idle, kerker 4:1, pods. From what I've been reading, possibly still small on the main?? The needle is, I believe the original, it has only 1 groove. I have new carb boots on the way for the oem air box, which I have. So I'm feeling like I have plenty of options to get it running smooth. Not trying to start anything, but I couldn't care less about the pods, as the bike runs faster than I need to go anymore anyway. Given that, any real reason not to put the original air box back on and tune from there? The advise & info throughout the forum has been great.

Did you put a piece of clear tubing to check that the fuel level was within 3mm of the gasket surface?
That jetting sounds like it would be right, once you get the Airbox hooked up. For the pod's you would need some small washers to Shim those needles up 1mm or so, thats .040" and maybe some 127 mains.
they will cough a bit till warmed up, thats pretty normal. Make sure the Diaphragms are sealing, and have no holes. I supposed you have looked at the manifolds?

The fuel level in the tubes is right at the seam on #1 & 4...looks like it on 2&3, but harder to judge, but they're all the same when measured for height on the float. The diaphragms are in good shape, no holes, folds or hard spots. Manifolds show no signs of cracking or separating from the flanges. Still have to sync the butterflies with the manometer while running (off enricher ), then I'll go back to the air pilot screws. I just put electrolyte in a new battery, so tomorrow after a charge, we'll start the next chapter. Now I hear a blazer that wants it's dash back together.

Your carbs are still dirty, you have passeges blocked in the carb bodies.

...starts immediately, enricher can be fully closed in a couple of minutes. Still need to synchronize 1&2 and then to the right bank... It's getting to where it can be tuned up!

Is that with the Airbox hooked up now, or are you still playing Pod's?

the carb to airbox boots showed up on the doorstep yesterday... so the airbox is going in before I do any more tinkerin'...

...stock airbox back on, NEW boots installed really nice in about 15 minutes (pliable an' the right lenght ), started right up, off the first enrich notch pretty quick, warmed it a couple of minutes and was able to close the enricher completely. Ran kind of rough until I synched the carbs... then started to sound like an old friend. Put the tank on and started right up, couple passes up an' down the driveway. About time to zero in on the air bypass screws? Whohoo!

I'd still be lookin' at it collect dust in the barn without the advise I got on this forum.... It's not done yet, but pretty quick the KZ will replace the Voyager as my daily ride

Nearly everyone of us enjoy working on their bike as much as riding it. But that said, there has got to be a decent ratio. I like the bike Reliable, even if it is old, but not as old as me. The riding should be enjoyed without drama, and with the Cv carbs, the riding I prefer, I strongly push the Stock Airbox. It can handle a few Mods to increase flow, without all the Pod drama.
