What are the major differences? Pros and cons of both?

Unless you have serious engine mods, those clever Japanese engineers knew how to make KZ's run well. Stock airbox. I have a running KZ1000A1 and I'm converting back from pods to a stock airbox...if I can ever locate a stock system (they are rare as most were pitched in favor of the pods).

As far as I know the bike only has been moded with 4-1 VH system. Would you say there is no real difference? Its just an esthetics thing?

If you don't mind tinkering with the carbs the pods will flow more air. But, if you just want to ride it, stick with the airbox and just drop in a foam or K&N type filter. Pods are defineatly easier to pull the carbs, but they can also screw with the mixture on a windy day.

Don't forget that pods spounds sweeeter....:p

But is the airbox realy that expansive? Didn't found very much on ebay, a completed listing ending at close to $90 for an airbox with silencer doesn't seam very much to me. Sure it's more than $28 for 4 pod filters, it's not like finding an original exhaust in decent condition at a fair price...

Pods will basically ruin the low end performance and some of the fuel economy of the bike.
Think of a high peformance speaker with a tuned port, thats what an airbox is. Its acoustically tuned to boost flow performance in the areas that the engine struggles to produce smooth power on its own. Especially during the first few thou rpm during the transition from initial to full advance. Back pressure, and tuned port intake are responsible for the smooth, as linear as possible power that Kawasaki engineered.

PODS, on the other hand allow you to bypass the theory of smooth street power for a nice boost in pull at higher rpms. you absolutely must rejet and tune the bike for the new air flow characteristics that will be dependant totally on the setup and condition of your engine : begin expierementation mode :P You'll get a lumpy, then flat, then boosty feel across the rpm range with OK tuned pods, some like it, some dont.

Go with whatever you feel like, but for those who know... airbox is the only option - and the power gains of pods, can be had with an airbox, it just requires lots more modding.

PEACE.

If you go with the pods...get a good brand. There is lots of difference between brands. I have always had good luck with K&N filters and I have heard the APE filters are good ones also. Some of the cheaper models are just that. They don't last very long and are very restrictive, so check them out before buying. As in lots of things, you get what you pay for with pods...get a good set the first time!

Thanks guys for the input. I think I still go with the POD for the look and for the better top end. My other ride has great bottom and mid range. This will be something new and different for me as well i thin kit will go better with the look i am trying for.
