79 kz1000 carb question
17 Apr 2011 22:56
Hello
i just got a new to me 1979 kz1000 b3 ltd.
I also have a 77 1000 ltd and the carbs on my 79 are a little different.
A couple questions in regards to this.
1. My petcock is duel fuel outlet but the carbs only have 1 inlet between the 2 sets. Of carbs. My 77 has same petcock but 2 inlets 1 on each side between 2 carbs. Any idea where the second fuel line goes?
2. There is a plunger like thing on the bottom of the 79 carbs that has a square cover with 4 screws holding it on bottom of the bowel. Than there is a triangle shaped spot for 3 screws but there was nothing on there. Does anyone know what is missing and do i need it?

Carbs with a single fuel inlet tee use only one fuel line from the petcock.
Where petcock has dual fuel outlet nipples, may use only one of the nipples, and cap off the other unused nipple. A vacuum cap (plug) may suffice to cap off the unused petcock fuel outlet nipple.
Good Fortune!

The triangle shaped piece is a fuel pump, which imo isn't needed.

Re: 79 kz1000 carb question
17 Apr 2011 23:35 - 17 Apr 2011 23:42Where carbs have the extra (green) vacuum nipple, it's usually for a hose to a vacuum petcock.
Any unused vacuum nipple should be capped (plugged) during normal engine operation (including the vacuum nipple on each carb holder).

Hoses connected to the vent nipples should exit to open air.

Re: 79 kz1000 carb question
17 Apr 2011 23:44Someone told me the 79 should have a tube that goes to the valve cover.
But mine does not. The valve cover is the same as my 77 ltd.
But acording to my vin its a b3 ltd on the frame it says 12/78 but i was told its a 79 because how late in the year it was made.
I want to make sure when i order parts im getting the right ones.
Thanks again for your help.

Yes. That is what he called it. He said if its a 79 it would be there. Do you know if they made some that year without it.

it goes from the airbox behind the carbs, not the carbs themselves.
73-78 airboxes did not have it
