1981 weird findings

ok so I took the carbs off of my 1981 kz650 h1 today, cleaned the jets, replaced the tubing...now here's where it gets weird. in on of the lines that connects the carbs at the bottom, between two of the carbs i found a round silver ball slightly bigger than a bb? wtf is right. I had no idea what it was but after looking at carb rebuild kits and accelerator pump rebuild kits, i think its from the accelerator pump? how is that possible that it ended up there? or is it something else and it's supposed to be there? I'm at a loss. I also wondered if what and where to get a complete kit to rebuild all 4 carbs(gaskets, jets, needles..) basically everything but the floats? and what's a good price for the kit. I looked on Z1 but didn't see "complete" kits?

and on carbs 1 and 4 there are places where it looks like some sort of line should be fitted, or should these be capped? on 1 it is right by what hooks up to the petcock vacuum?

thanks in advance!

Float bowl VENT nipples should exit to open air.

All unused VACUUM nipples should be capped (plugged).
These are typically nipples on the carb holders.

Some carbs have a 5th vacuum nipple assigned to supply vacuum to a vacuum operated petcock.

When the stock epa clean air paraphernalia remains fitted, it uses two of the vacuum nipples.

Good Fortune! :)

thanks! that helps a lot!

epa clean air paraphernalia

I def don't need that crap. I'm sure it's still on here the bike hasn't ever been apart.
I assume that there is a procedure to remove it listed on here. time to tear these puppies apart again.

I have two vacuum lines joined with a tee (1 and 4), one line from 3 to the petcock, and a cap on 2. Does this sound correct, and does it indeed indicate the epa clean air stuff? I dont think my carbs have ever been apart. Haven't started the bike yet, either. Oh, I have the stock keihin 34s.

Thanks a ton

Quick question: Will removing this pollution control stuff require any adjustment on the carbs in itself? If they were idling and running fine before, I mean.

Thanks a ton

I found these, but nothing else to fit KZ. I'll keep looking.

cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...em&item=290484309840

I also found some cool stuff ate APE racing, but they only had em for the J head and some 550s I think.

Removal of the epa stuff should not affect carb adjustment.

Remember to cap vac nipples 1 and 4.

Leave the cap on vac nipple 2.

Keep vac hose to petcock from vac nipple 3.

Looks to me like the plates for a GPZ550 will work, and they have them at APE (they look a little better than those others, IMO). The part no. for the GPZ cap is 11012, the same part on my 750 is 11012A. Difference looks like just the barb angle. The dfcyclefab guys say the same plates will work for a 650. I'm getting a pair myself.

Cheers
