Yes, this does cause the problem, but his '77 650 shouldn't have that valve cover. He has one of the pretty ones without the air ports.

The same thing happened on my 77 KZ650B when I was on a road trip to Georgia from Florida. It was my points, I stoped in a small town auto parts store for a feeler gauge and a combo screwdriver then made the rest of the trip there and back with no problems at all.

Adjusted points, fixed! that was it fellas. thanks for the insights. I hate to sound cliche' but this site it the best. I have other sites for my cars that arent as helpful as this one. thanks again to yall that helped!:laugh:
