Am thinking 1980 models included 4 cylinder KZ750 standard and LTD, and KZ750LTD twin.
Am uncertain as to which KZ750 parts might be interchangeable with 1983 KZ550.
Good Luck!

okay i finally had a chance to pull the tank and grab some pictures of my carbs. you can see the 2 exposed vac lines in front of my finger and under the blue cap. when i pulle dthe tank and let the bike run with out the vac line hooked to the tank the idle bumped up higher and smoothed out a bit i thought that was weird. any way heres the bike and the carbs.

Not 100% sure about those carbs, but I think the nipple that's capped off in the first picture with the blue cap is an atmospheric vent that needs to be open for the carbs to breath correctly. Should be one of those between the 1 and 2 carbs and another between the 3 and 4 carbs. On most carbs I've worked on (vm24 and vm26 Mikunis, several racks of each) the vacuum port that connects to the petcock is on the #2 carb body, pointing kind of angled toward the rider. That is the only vacuum fitting on those carbs, the others that look like vacuum nipples are vents or overflow tubes and shouldn't be capped. Suggest locating a shop manual for your bike and ensuring that you know for sure what fittings are what.

Please note: the carbs are numbered 1-2-3-4 left-to-right as you are sitting on the bike. The same goes for other stuff: cylinders, spark plugs, exhaust pipes, etc
) The #2 & #3 carb holder vacuum ports are typically capped. Please note that those ports are NOT on the carbs.
The vents are usually located in the same position on two of the carbs - probably the #2 & #4 carbs - the blue cap in pic one, the open port yer pointing to in pic two. The vent tubing is routed towards the rear of the bike & should point down. On my bike they're routed over the airbox shoulders & fit snug between the airbox & side covers.
I would guess that the petcock vacuum line is connected to the forward port on carb #4 in pic one.

It's an air injection system - fresh air is introduced into the exhaust to help burn off any unused fuel..... u said the emmisions part which im guessing kinda works like a pcv has a big hose off the airbox and is mounted under the tank!
Actually, you have two air injection lines connected to the #1 & #4 carb holder vacuum ports... Referencing your pics above (they would be easier to look at if the pics were oriented the same, instead of having one sideways.should have 2 vaccuum lines going to it right? i have one line coming off the 1st carb.

The short version.
The carbs etc are numbered 1-2-3-4 left-to-right sitting on the bike.
Carb holder vacuum ports:
#1 & #4 -->> air injection system hoses
#2 & #3 -->> capped
Carb vents:
#2 & #4 -->> same general postion on those two carbs
The blue cap & the one yer pointing to. The vent hoses are typically routed towards the rear of the bike & should point down.
Petcock vacuum port:
#4 -->> the forward port w the black tubing.
Fuel line:
Connected to a T-fitting between #2 & #3

In one of the early posts 2low4NH mentioned the shorty mufflers seen in the pic. Could they be adding to his woes by creating a rather lean situation? We should also note that even after the carbs and ignition are sorted out, some popping on decel will remain and be quite noticeable with those mufflers.

lots of replies today! i changed the coils from ones on the kz750 and drained the tank and carbs again ran some fresh fuel. i tried changing out the exhuast but it was a no go with the 750. im gonna try and fab up some new mufflers. after i did this it was running better but i have 2 leaks on the header. still bogging and stalling i gotta change the plugs and see how much better that runs. thanks for all the help and yes the pics with the blue cap are 3/4 so those should be open? i also added a tee to the smog crap.

Confused!?!?! If you mean the vent ports on the #2 & #4 carbs, then yes, they should be open to the atmosphere. Route the tubing in whatever manner is correct for your bike.....the pics with the blue cap are 3/4 so those should be open? ...
