Mikuni question
16 Sep 2008 08:00
I have a 1979 KZ650C. This is my first bike and I'm not quite sure how to tell which set of carbs are on there. I need some parts but don't know which ones to order. If someone could tell me how to tell if I have the 29mm or 33mm I would greatly appreciate it. Also on a side note I think I got robbed, I just want everyone else's opinion.
As I said it is a 1979 KZ650C with 9,500 original miles. The guy that I bought it from put it all back together and said that it just needed the pilot air screws. Other than that I think it's all complete, however like I said this is my first bike. I traded a laptop(worth about $350) and $300 cash for it. It has a fairly new paint job that still looks good. Thanks for any input in advance. I can put pics up when I get back home.

Am unsure about the shorter black hose to left of fuel line, but is probably a vacuum line to a vacuum operated petcock] EDIT - Kawasaki.com shows both type petcocks in the fuel tank diagram (i.e., manual operated and vacuum operated].
Photo is at wrong angle to show whether side located pilot air screws are fitted (or possibly bottom located pilot mixture screws fitted instead). Both type pilot screws are shown in the parts diagram on Kawasaki.com (see following post) --- guessing that means 1979 KZ660 might have either one style or the other. Part #32 was side located. Part #30 was bottom located (with a limiter cap). Perhaps the bottom located style came on later models to discourage large adjustments to the pilot circuit fuel mixture.

Edit -- the ??? shorter black tube is probably a vacuum line to the petcock.
Good Luck!

This diagram also appears on Kawasaki.com for a 1979 KZ650-C "Custom", which shows what is believed to be a vacuum line #43 which would attach to a vacuum petcock. But doesn't show the more detailed exploded view and doesn't show the fuel pump on #2 carb (bottom of float bowl).
