Carb. mount boots?

Whats the general consensus on changing the mounting boots,if they dont appear to be cracked or leaking,just old and original,like 20 + plus years old?

Dont fix it if it aint broke! Why mess with a good thing?

Don't touch them unless they are bad. Many times the mount screws are corroded in the head and will twist right off.

At $60.00 for for pieces of rubber I would be very careful with them, and like bullitt said "If it ain't broke"

Yeah, i guess i'll treat 'em like a sore pecker and not screw with it.They "look " ok but after 20 something years i just wasnt sure whether to do them or not,since i have the carbs. off,this would be the time to do'em.Sure dont want to fight the air filter boots any more than i have to,theyre the worst part of that job.

I like to replace carb holders at least every three years. They may not LOOK bad but they harden and won't seal well. They are not intended to last for 20 years for sure. I view carb holders as consumables, like plug wires, plugs and other tune up parts. That is just me.

And where do you find them? Z1E? Someplace else?
I need manifolds for a 78 KZ 650 D1, and all I can find is one side (can't remember, left or right), and for $not-too-cheap also.

I bought the carb boots from Z1 last year. I think they were around $60 for 4. They are only available for the one side but the only difference is the rotation for where the vacuum plugs go. Not a problem for the capped one, but the vacuum line is a bit of a stretch on the other. Mine also looked good and never really noticed a difference with the WD40 spray test, but changed them (and the air box boots) and it made a world of difference. Not only performance, but pliable so much easier to get the carbs back on - and off again and on again as I forgot to put the carb boot clamps on first;)

I do have one question though.... where can you buy the vacuum line in a long roll? Would like to replace (and lengthen) these lines.

+1 on changing them out. I've replaced two sets that "looked good" but weren't. Pick up the ones from Z1 and just flip whichever side upside down. While you're placing an order from Jeff, pick up a new set of airbox boots too, you'll be happy you did.

Silicone hose in any size available here, mostly sold by the foot.

If it doesn't pass th WD 40 test change them out, I put up with rough running for too long. Did mine recently and now she runs beautifully. Money well spent.

Had to pull the airbox and use a small impact driver to get the screws out, replaced the screws and put some anti-sieze on them. The impact driver is a "must have" for working on these old machines

The factory ones seem to hold up better then the aftermarket ones but they cost more too.
