Z1 does have the #40 polit air jets and the price is MUCH better. The part number is SU004-058.

These guys are awesome. They are prompt to return emails and go above and beyond to help.

The usual disclaimer applies: I have nothing to do with Z1 other than being a VERY satisfied customer.

Thanks wiredgeorge for the suggestion to contact them.

I spoke with Jeff about his business the other day and I think you will see even more stuff being sold and even better customer service in the future. Hopefully, the changes that are coming with Z1Enterprises will take some of the workload off Jeff as he told me he has only taken one day off in the past year... ouch! Sounds as bad as my situation hehe

In my experience Ive found that cv style carbs are hard to tune without the stock air box.

Cheapie... I hesitate to respond because your question has nothing to do with this thread. Why not start a new thread?

Also if there is any good tech articles on how these carbs operate I'd love to read it. I'm familiar with Holley's and i've worked on a few other car carbs but never worked on Mikuni bike carbs.

Thanks,

Check in the filebase here....I believe under "Not model specific". I remember a good "Slide carburetor" article in there someplace.....Happy reading!

Just so you guys know how this all turned out I thought I'd post an update.

I installed the #140 main jet and the # 40 pilot jet and preset the pilot air screw to 1.5 turns out from light seat. Reinstalled the carbs and the bike started right up. I allowed it to warm a little bit then adjusted the idle to 1000. I then turned each pilot screw, one at a time, out about another half turn and the engine speed came up readjusted the idle to 1000 and went for a ride. I was pretty happy with the ride. I rode the bike to work this morning with the temperature in the low 30's. The bike started fine and didn't seem near as cold natured as it was but the big improvement was in how it pulls. It seems the power range is a lot broader than it was. I get behind a lot of slow traffic in the mornings and I noticed I was not down shifting near as much. I'm very happy with how it's running and we'll see how it continues to run over the next few months.

Thanks George and everybody else thats helped.

Humbly,
Tony T
