Does anybody know if the carbs off a 2003 kawasaki zr7 will fit a 1981 ltd 750? Both look like they are of the old aircool design and I believe the carbs are both 34 and look similar. I have a chance to pick up a set for 75 bucks. Sounded like a good deal if they interchange. Thanks in advance.

I doubt that the engines have the same cylinder spacing. You can use carbs from any KZ650, KZ750, KZ900, Z1, KZ1000, KZ1000J style, KZ1100 for sure (possibly need some jetting changes, intake manifolds and cable changes as well as airbox).

Actually, I think the ZR-7 uses the same basic engine as the KZ750-4, and thus would have the same spacing.

As far as the carbs working? I don't see why not... but if anyone else knows better than me, please chime in!

Yes it is wiredgeorge. Air and oil-cooled. Got interested in the idea of haveing newer parts for an older 750. Who knows, maybe if the carbs interchange the other engine parts may also, opening up a whole new platform for building up the old 750s; including better availabiliy of parts.

I also have a set of ZR_7 carbs waiting to be installed on my KZ700.
I'm not sure but maybe you have to buy the intake boots (between head and carbs) from a ZR-7, because they are different from the ones used on the old 750's, I'm also not sure if the boots between the carbs and the airbox will fit.
My KZ700 has Mikuni carbs, so it just might be an easy fit on an old Keihin carbed 750.

Recently I won a set of floatneedles and seats for my carbs on eBay. So I'm going to try to restore my old Mikuni's first. If they are still leeking, then I will try the ZR-7 carbs. They also have a floatbowl heating device attached.

I sent a note to one of our members who owns one of the ZR-7s but he didn't answer me on carb spacing. The spacing is critical. The 32mm flanges will fit into your carb boots BUT... look at the flanges. Each boot has a shape make to allow it to grab a specific carb. The 32mm and small engined 34mm BS series and Keihin CV34 all have the same type flange... the larger bikes with the 34s installed have DIFFERENT flanges on the 34s so the intake manifolds have to be the right type otherwise they may fail.

That's good to know about the boots. I believe the zr7s carbs are actually 32's so hopefully they will work. If not I'll probabably just buy zr7 boots.

The member who I asked for the spacing didn't answer. I get confused when folks who have asked me for advice in the past are not willing to share info we me. Oh well... If anyone can measure the center to center carb spacing on the ZR-7 carbs, it would be appreciated. Thanks The spacing for the KZ700 is 77mm - 93mm - 77mm; in other words 77mm between 1&2 and 3&4 and 93mm between 2 and 3.

Are you sure? Because when I have a look at the partsfiches, the ZR-7 seems to have 4 different carbboots. (16065-1256 to 1259)
My KZ700 uses the same 4 for every cylinder. (16065-1132), but the KZ700 has Mikuni carbs whereas the ZR-7 has Keihin carbs, so this might explain the differences.

If I can find the time this weekend I'll try to measure my set of ZR-7 carbs.
