I have a 1980 Z1000H(inj). However I'm looking to replace the ECU control box with something more modern.

The original system works but is , at best, very course. Ideally I'd like a modern ECU which will keep the mixture set correctly at all times.

Can anyone point me in the direction of where to find a replacement ?

I know 'Power commanders' aren't available for this age of bike, however I understand there are other systems out there , some which are also programable from a laptop PC..

Any help appreciated !:

Do a search for posts made by member Dave Sloan, he has a MegaSquirt programmable EFI controller running on a KZ650 fitted with an 810 kit and has posted about it.

I'm MegaSquirting my '81 GPz, which (if memory seres me correctly) is the same setup.
There are at least three limitations to the hardware of this system (apart from the control unit) that have to be dealt with.
#1. The injector bungs are actually in the head, not on the throttle bodies, and the injector style Kaw used is prone to overheat. The tendency for the injectors to overheat has often been blamed on the location (in the head, not on the throttlebodies) but my research shows that it's the injectors, not the location of them.

The injector on the right is the style Kaw used, the injector in the middle is the common one. 19# Ford 5.0 injectors are really cheap, and are like the one in the middle. But to use these require the removal of the head and boring the injector bungs out to 17/32.
2. The air flow meter that Kaw used is strictly stone age. MegaSquirt doesn't even require one, so you will have to figure out a new air cleaner setup.
3. Kaw didn't use a real throttle position sensor (that thing on the left end of the throttle bodies is just a "wide open" sensor). Any system you use will need a real TPS.
Everything else is just making it work. But, if you're serious about this, be prepared for what you're getting yourself into. It's not just changing the box.

I am curious as to where you are located, your bike was never imported to the US we only got the G-1 for a fuel injected offering.

The TPS on my '83 gpz1100 throttlebodies works as the later tps's do and gives a true throttle position and is not just an idle switch.
Sid has one of the first injected Kawas that he is thinking about using MS on but I dont think that he has done it yet.

so is there any injectors that can just replace the old ones without any work to the head???

i also checked on bike bandit, How the hell do they still sell the brain for the EFI system, i thought kawi didn't make it anymore???

Bike Bandit will often list parts as being available but when they are ordered, they will email you to let you know they are out-of-stock:blink: I speak from a position of experience...I rarely order from them now as I don't trust them...what they have on their site is not a reflection of the real world

Not that I could find when I started working on mine. And if you do stick with the stock style injectors you run the risk of cooking them. There is another option, but it also requires work on the head. You can get throttle bodies from an '82 or newer GPz that has the injectors located in the throttle bodies, but you still have to plug the old holes in the head. Or, find a head and throttle bodies from an '82 or newer, bolt them on and be done with it. Not being one to throw away a perfectly good head, I went ahead and bored my injector holes out. It gave me a chance to plug the emissions holes in the cam cover, and made me tear the engine down far enough that I found I needed a new cam chain and tensioner blocks. Come on, it's a 26 year old engine. It prob'ly needs SOMETHING else done to its insides!

i think this bike is drive it till it dies...then toss on some carbs and a straight pipe...but till the injection dies. just enjoy it.

I live in Scotland. I understand that there were around 200 Z100H's imported into the UK in 1980/81, so I guess there aren't too many still running as new these days.
