Take a set of Suzuki GS 1100 cases apart and youll see why. Kawasaki cases dont have near the crank support the GS cases do for the high reving pro stock motors.

etbike3135:

Can you explain yourself more, where are the GS crank cases stronger? And, in Prostock are you not allowed to modify the crankcases where needed? What is the NHRA ruling on this?

Thanks

I have seen a few photos of the mods Kaw racers used to make to the cases and they are extensive. You wouldn't recognize them. They tried all kinds of things to make the cases stronger but NHRA won't let them run aftermarket cases and they can't make them rigid enough to hold the crank and parts rigid enough without too much flex. GS cases are in same boat but they are stronger and get by. Muzzy tried to make the ZX14 viable for pro-stock but NHRA wouldn't allow the mods they needed to those motors to make them strong enough either. NHRA basically says that Suzuki and Kawasaki have to use factory parts but the Buell's and especially the Harleys can use billet motors...

There's a story that Suzuki made cast iron cases for Byron years ago. Can't say if it's true or not.

NHRA is one f'kd up organization IMO. It's corporate money driving everything in this country today including racing rules....aka Harley Davidson for example. I rarely even watch NHRA drag racing anymore :(
