Early Z/KZ, bathtub or J? They can be interchanged, but there is work involved.

If you buy a used head, make sure it includes the cam caps. The bores were machined at the factory with the caps installed. You might be lucky and get away with a different set, but it would be asking for problems.

This is important. So much so that I'll say it again. The cam journals are machined (line bored) with the caps installed on the head, the caps are then matched only to that head, and not just that head but to each specific location on that head. That's why each cap is numbered.
I've been very surprised by how many KZ heads I see for sale on Ebay that are missing all the cam caps. Or auctions selling individual cam caps, as if they are random interchangeable parts.
Once the cams caps have been separated from the head, the head becomes just a big hunk of scrap aluminum.
Yes, some people have made random caps work, but I would not take that risk.

For a head with original matched caps, no broken,or lost fins, no more than maximum very small cracks in the plug threads to seats, is it an very, very fair offer for 100 bucks.
Wish to find some for this price in germany

Where are you located in Germany MFP-Joe.
Can offer you my spare Z1B cyl. head with matching cam caps/bearings and valve cover.
Only one broken fin but repairable.
If you're interested, I'll take a few photos of it.

Hi Scirocco,
This, "I wish there was a head for this price in Germany", was intended more as an example of what something like this normally costs in Germany, in contrast to the offer shown here for about 100,- bucks:
- But thank you for your kind offer!!
(I currently still have 2 good heads, ( but eventually, i am looking for an complete A1/A2 engine as a "reserve" engine , to swap in case of any hard damage in the middle of a bike-season..
I àm located in the north, near Hamburg..
By the way: How does it work here , to send a member an private message ??? Can´t find the button for this....

I'd be careful ordering on FB. There are scammers on there too. We WHACK them as soon as they pop up but even I was scammed on crash bars. Two left hand sides but I used PayPal so I got my money back. He tried to fight it and didn't want the old ones back. I banned him of course and any other accounts he could set up. Wish we had that feature on KZR.
