Any information on rare strap wrench?
01 Aug 2026 12:45
Hey everyone, hope your all well?
Ive been on a bit of a mission for the last few years, here in the uk in the mid 70s our Kawasaki dealer workshops all recieved a tool shadow board I'm not sure if the same board was available in the States?
it features every special tool for the early zeds and a couple for off road bikes...
I've been trying to buy an original board, I know of two dealerships that have them and wont sell and I've been scammed by one Guy who's dad ran a big Kawasaki dealership that closed in 2003, he sent me pictures of the board, I sent the money, nothing arrived and the guy disappeared, I later discovered that he's technically sold the board to ten people before me!
anyway I'm pleased to say that I own all th e tools apart from two! I still need to find the 57001 116 puller and there is a shadow on the left for an oil filter strap wrench, the number is 99985 095 10.
I've talked to all the dealers that have been running for 40 plus years in the uk, they dont remember anything about a strap wrench and even Kawasaki head office uk tell me that the tool doesn't exist! But I've seen pictures of three of these mid 70s boards now, they are all identical, they all have the shadow for the wrench....
have any of you guys ever seen this rare tool?
Many thanks
Luke.

I do not recall ever seeing a KZ with an external oil filter, so I suspect that strap wrench is for some other purpose like choking scammers......

Ha ha
yes I thought about the lack of external filters, I wonder if the wrench could be used to get a grip on something else.....google suggested it probably isn't an official tool but perhaps a vintage made in Japan wrench with that long part number, like I say as far as I know all the early dealers (about 15 in 1974 in the uk) had one of these boards and I assume every tool was there, but no one remembers the strap wrench......

PN# 99985 095 10 does not appear in the U.S-market hard copy of the Kawasaki dealer Parts Retail Price Guide published 09/05/1994.
There are no numbers with the prefix 99985-...-.. Numbers skip from 99974-xxx-xx to 99990-xxx.
It's unlikely this dealer price manual was common to the U.S and U.K. in the day, as currency is listed as USD, but, PN#'s may be the same.
Interesting too, that only two (!) of the Z1 dealer service tools appear in the dealer price book; we never looked before today. All the Z1 dealer tools begin with 57001-xxx. The Z1 dealer service tools 57001-143 and 57001-144 are the only 2 that appear. Both are circlip pliers that would probably be considered common across other models and available to retail buyers.
Sheath, please confirm 99985 095 10 is correct?

This may be a tool manufacturer number and market specific- when I worked in VW dealers some tools came direct from VWG others came from manufacturers such as Hazet directly

Firstly thankyou for all the brilliant information.
I actually cant 100% confirm the numbers are right, with the pictures I have the Resolution is too bad, I emailed a helpful ex Kawasaki manager at Zed power a couple of months ago, he has an original tool board getting dusty at the back of a workshop, he told me it was 99985 095 10 but I haven't seen it for myself! It could well be 99974 or 99984 even, I'll start searching those numbers right now!
many thanks

Just for grins I poked around a bit with that part number: Partzilla (US-based) didn't have anything at all, but CMSNL.com (Netherlands) did:
www.cmsnl.com/products/strap-wrench_9998...duct&ac_q=9998509510
Unfortunately they don't have a picture, but I'm wondering if that was a Euro-only part number.
