Used tools thoughts opinions...
24 Jul 2020 08:55
Hey everyone! I'm helping to clear out a workshop right now for a retired mechanic and I'm slowly buying good looking bits that I could use in my small workshop! I'm really pleased with the snapon torque wrench for a start because it's something like 5 to 75lbs, perfect for the small bolts on the kawasaki, then I found some good looking tin snips, nice small Mac grips, 10" Rothenberger ratchet grips, Sykes pickavant stud removers M6 to M12 , a lovely dial caliper and finally a strange plug tester, I'll have to research how to use it  hopefully these pics won't come out upside down as usual! oh yeah my retired mechanic friend asked £100 for all of it but I thought that was a bit too cheap and I felt better paying £120 , what do you guys think, are they good quality items?

Great score! I bet the seller is pleased that they are going to somebody who appreciates fine tools.
I have a Mitutoyo dial caliper very similar to that. In all the years I have owned it, I have not once regretted spending a little extra money on it. I bet that during all the years you own those tools, you will never say, "I really wish I had bought some cheap crap instead."

Ha ha exactly! I always think if you use the best tools you can possibly afford and keep everything well lubed on your bike and car you have a nicer time working on things and your less likely to break things also I believe in keeping tools well lubed too and in a nice dry environment

The gem in your purchase is the Snap-On torque wrench. It's a very nice size for a lot of work. Make sure that you have the calibration checked by someone. Not sure where you live, but most Snap-On salesmen have a device in their truck for checking the calibration of a torque wrench and will check it for free especially if it's a Snap-On product. If it's off by any appreciable amount you would have to send it in to Snap-On for repair or just compensate for the error factor.

Thanks Rick that's great to know I was a little concerned about calibration, next time I see a snapon van I'll run up to it! This is my little tool shed ,it's got a bit out of hand!

Hee hee! In the last two years I've got really carried away with tools! I do have lots of AF/Whitworth almost all Elora and Stahlwille with a fair bit of britool too, plus I've started to collect a 10mm spanner for every tool company I can think of, I'm up to 33 so far! I have plenty of metal boxes full of tools too! The bike gets squeezed in with it all! Oh yes one 10mm spanner I still need is a craftsman, but I'm in the uk and postage is about £18 plus the cost of the spanner! So I'm trying hard to find one a bit cheaper!
