My KZ1000 came with a 4 into 1 header, I have no idea what brand it is. Well the thing had no baffles in it.
I like the sound of it wide open, but for daily commuting, the noise can be annoying.
I was going to make a baffle for it out of some sheetmetal and exhaust pipe, but I was tooling around the local farm and home supply when I spotted a tractor muffler that looked like it would slip inside my header.
Paid $17 bucks for it and took it home. It slipped right into my header almost like it was meant to be there. I drove a screw into the side of it to hold it in the header, and took it for a ride. It was actually too quiet, and the back pressure was too much for my motor. Caused some missing and sputtering at wide open throttle. I took a look inside the muffler and discovered a partition inside the forces all of the exhaust gas from the inner tube into the outer tube, then back into the inner tube. I sharpened up a piece of rebar and hammered it through the partition a couple times. Reinstalled it, and now it runs fine, and actually sounds pretty good without being obnoxious. I also cut both nipples off the ends of it.
