Needing help on piston selection
08 Nov 2006 12:13
Is it possible to use KZ pistons on a J-model? It's really hard to find cheap pistons intended for the J. I know that using the J head drops static comp on KZ's, but what effect does using older pistons with the J head have, is it the same? can I use some spacers to drop the comp even more? ( so if start with 13.5:1 I can get it down to 10.5 or 11 ) If anyone is selling any 1170+ pistons that will work on a J - let me know.

cary-
sent you a pm.
if you are good with TIG welding, el-cheapo approach would be used 72.5mm from 1100 and build up the crowns. Jeff at z1 may still have ring sets for $95. I know a guy who said he used that "aluminum solder" rod the sell at the flea mkts to increase compression on his thumper. he claims it worked fine. personally i would not trust the stuff to stay put.

not sure that approach sounds safe to me. I want to build this thing to make power for a long time. I may have to bite the bullet and buy a kit
