Kickstart
18 Oct 2006 21:26
Hi guys, I hav a 79 kz1000 and have a few questions. How fdo you go about using the kicker? Is there some special trick? Mine doesn't seem to want to start. Also you can start w/ kicker even w/ a bad battery right.

if you hold the clutch in (at least on my 650) the kicker wont engage, has to be in neutral with the clutch released
the coils need some power to fire. if the battery is completly dead, it probly wont start, but if theres enough to make sparks, just not enough for the electric starter to turn the motor over fast enough, the kick start should get it going

Oh yeah, now I think I get it, and believe most everybody kick starts like that (right side of bike, standing on left foot and kicking with right). Best to impress the ladies with kick start from astride the bike (right foot of course -- always the right foot -- would rather use my right hand than spaz out trying the left foot).

Thanks for clearing that up. Must be a true lefty.
No way I could do that. Us true righties are helpless with either left extremity.
