LTD pipes a performance hindrance?

Hi,

I wonder if the factory LTD pipes (78 KZ1000), which are 4-into-2 with no collector, are a performance-limiting factor on this bike? The jetting was different for the LTD, and I wonder if a 4-into-1 would really uncork the motor?

Well, I had a new 1979 KZ1000B and after a while, I swapped out the stock pipes for Kerkers. I certainly sounded faster...

I thought that the 4-into-2 Jardines WERE collector type mufflers.
I didn't know that the LTDs were jetted differently. Is that true?

They are jetted a little differently from the standard KZ1000 of the same year. The Jardine LTD pipes run Cylinders 1 and 2 to one muffler, and cylinders 3 and 4 to the other, with no collector or crossover.

All I know ( no comments Sandy ) is that WITH my LTD Jardines the bike has less pickup ( seat of the pants feeling here no hard data )than with my Kerker.
But I don't care, as the Jardines give it a finished look with pipes on both sides and no problems with Mr. Law;) on the sound.
And I'm old so how needs fast;) I'd ride a Harley if I wanted loud and fast:lol: :silly:  :silly: :P

If pro is opposite of con, then what is the opposite of progress?
