I was looking at a KZ1000 for sale on E-bay and I came across this strange looking oiling setup. I see the guy has a wiesco big block kit on it and was wondering if that requires running external oil lines. Has anyone seen this type of setup before?

Yeap, a friend of mine has that set-up. The idea is that the oil going up to the head doesn´t get hot running through the oil passage in the cyl block. I don´t think there´s any other reason to that but it looks pretty coolB) Also in that pic I can see nice Mikuni RS34/36s and the oil hoses to the cooler are nice steel steel-enforced ones

I got those also in my vesrion 1.5 ELR. Currently running v1.51, added Mikuni TM33-12 flatslides a few weeks ago

that is common practice on early zx-10/11s except the lines are run from pan.on the zx series bikes it was done because of oil starvation problems to main bearings they ran external lines to head to restrict oil to topend and keep more oil at mains.;) it looks good, but i think it might look even better with polished stainless hardlines instead of braided.;)

That is a "top end oiler". It is more for getting extra oil to the cams and not rally for cooling. The regular oil passages still go thru the cylinders and into the head. Since out oil pressure is so low a top end oiler is a really good idea on track bikes that will see high rpm for extended times. Drag bikes do not need them as much since they are only running high rpm for 6-10 seconds a a time.
