where to bore?

So from reading in the archives, its a bad idea to get a car machine shop to bore out a bike motor. why is this? a different honing method?
Im finally ready to get my 810 motor built, but Im not sure if there are any local (central New Brunswick Canada) places that specialize in doing bike motors:( I contacted one place that did a few big bore quad bikes (banshees, 400-440 EXs ect) and they said it would take a full day to do, and would cost around $300 for a bore and hone. thats with no disassembly or re assembly. is this as over priced as I think?

We are about half that if you supply the pistons, and a third that if you buy the pistons from us. However, no way could we do it in a day.

You might want to contact Larry at Niagra Racecrafters.

Nova automotive in Dartmouth can do it for $40.00 per hole..... I had mine done there a few years back, they done a good job as i measured the holes myself and they were right on the measurements I wanted... I gave them a piston (wiseco) and told them to bore the hole's 0.002" over that. They do bike engines all the time

Call several motorcycle repair shops in your area and talk to the service manager. They will likely ALL use the same machine shop and will likely be happy to give you the name of that shop. That shop won't be famous as they likely won't do car stuff.
