Well, the engine is removed from the chassis and cases split and man I can't believe how heavy that crank is....first time working this far into a 30+ year old machine. I'm sending it along with the head and block to APE for some love, I'm buying a piston set from them so the entire lower end can be balanced after they whittle on the crank. I'm faced with a little side stand issue that needs to be addressed prior to powdercoating the chassis. The bolt hole in the mounting tab is ovaled causing the whole assembly to ride up resulting in a excessive lean while on the side stand. I'm considering a few methods like drilling and bushing it back to spec or maybe welding it closed and re-drilling. Any ideas or experience with this would be appreciated. thanks, Matt

I'm no welder but my buddy has a nice TIG. what type did you use? when I mentioned this option he wasn't sure about bits being able to bite thru the spot.

i used a stick welder...6011 3-16ths rod...set to ac 70 amps...started on the back side of the hole and went round and round the edge to the middle...the went to the front side of the hole and cleaned out any slag with a dremel...then welded it the same...ground both sides flat...center punched where i wanted the new hole..grabbed the drill and drilled a new hole the size of the bolt...the pivot pin bolt and hindge was ok so i didnt mess with it..i also had to add a lil weld right at the tip of the lock...it was rounded off and if you pushed forward on the bike the stand would just fold up...havent had any more problems and the stand works like new.
my bike is a police bike...i dont know if the stand is different from an A model...

T.I.G. would be even better...No Slag to get in the way
