tiny o ring/ oil-filter change, seepage

the small o ring that purportedly belongs b/t the outer shell and the long bolt that the element assembly spins and mounts with, once i finally figured out where it belongs, always tends to tear and cause oil seepage.

do u guys use these rings with success?

for years i never knew where it belonged and screwed the housing down without it.

no, i am not the smartest guy wandering the aisles.

so what's the trick ? just a wee bit of torque like the book says?

dont be afraid to get a good coating on it, you can wipe up drips after.
