hey guys, I have a 1982 kz440 ltd. Im kinda thinking of getting a smaller rear belt pulley for it because it doesn't seem to go very fast. usually when im cruising around doing 60 kph, im in 6th gear @ around 3000 rpm. does that seem right? I think in order to be doing 100 kph, I would be at around 6-7 thousand rpm......I haven't taken it out onto the highway for that exact reason, because I think that I would be reving the piss out of my engine. I know the engine redlines at 9 grand, but does this seem right? Are you other kz440 owners getting the same numbers? My buddies midnight star will do 100 kph in third gear no problem......thats a huge difference, and i know its a totaly different bike. But i would like to hear your opinions. Thanks in advance.

Hmm, I dont know about kph but with our two banger KZ440s i dont think its too abnormal to be revving high in top gear. In top gear at about 60mph im at about 5500 - 6000 RPM, seems to match my speed, fastest I went was 80mph and I was at about 7000 RPM or just below.

My 550 runs about 7k-7500 at somwhere between 75 and 80 mph..Although, I don't run it at that for very long, 7 miles or so.

yea, thats kind of another concern of mine.....how long could you really run and engine at that rpm??? sounds like a pretty stressfull run for an engine.

*bump*

Im planning a couple of long trips (9-10 hour+) in the next month or so, just wondering if its not a good idea to take the interstate if im going to be revving at 6-7000 for the majority of the journey...
