I just started the research on this. I want to give y 79 ltd kz1000 a shot of nitrous. I have individual air cleaners for each carb. I have a stage 3 jet kit and I was hoping somebody has been down this road. If it is possible with say an additional fuel line and a fuel pump or something along those lines. Let me hear your advice, thanks

How much nitrous were you thinking of? For racing or for road use?

The kits come with a fuel punp, and four i9ndividual fogger nozzles. All you need is the nitrous manifolds that fit between the head and the carb boots, and it is a direct bolt on deal.

I have also been thinking of adding nitrous. Would we need to lower the compression or alter the timing or anything like that for a street setup? Or is truly a bolt on mod?

It's a mod I would approach with extreme caution. I don't have any experience of nitrous on KZs, but I do with ZX11s and ZX12s, using both wet and dry kits, and it's a steep learning curve I can tell you that. I wouldn't even consider running more than 30hp of gas without forged pistons, race fuel, and some form of ignition retard. If you are happy with 25hp and a nice blue bottle on the side then fine, any more than that and some serious planning is called for in my opinion. Don't forget to upgrade the clutch and brakes too... ;)

54 hp from my 750 twin, plus 30 hp from nitous, equals 84 hp. Hey! I'm all for that!!

I think it would probably grenade my motor though :D

I was thinking of a shot of about 50 to 100 but Im certainly not an expert on the subject. I will do more research after my 12 hour shift schedule is over this saturday. Thanks alot for the advice, I might call that nitrous company from work and ask their opinion on the subject. Reason Im considering it is Ive heard from many people that my kz is bulletproof, and it should be able to handle such a load. Or are they exzaggerating on their knowledge of the subject! Thanks again, peace

Hope you have a lot of money. 50-100 hp nitrous. Like Lorcan said forged pistons, race fuel and ignition retard. Heck even 25 hp will probably send the rear tire up in smoke. Those old 2.5" rims don't carry much rubber. A stock comp ratio is believe 9.5:1. That I believe is on the upper edge for nitrous. I think Nitrous piston kits are 8.5:1. Nitrous can only be used at full throttle and don't ever shut off throttle whle on the "gas".

There is a video on the web somewhere proving that Kawasaki engines are in fact quite vulnerable to bullets...

You have the MKII crank in that 79 LTD. That would be a good beginning point but for a 100hp shot you not only have to do the motor properly but the chassis will be more than dangerous with a true 100hp shot. I do think it would be a big thrill though for a "momont".....mod

i always thought the 79 ltds had big pin cranks too until it was brought to my attention that the 79 ltds were built with leftover 78 parts ,the 80 models have the big pin crank like the 79-80 kzs.;) you should come up with a way to bring the nitrous on in stages 100 horse in one shot is gonna play hell with that back tire!

Didn't realaize the potential for devasting my motor:(
I need more speed and I dont want to sell my kz for a newer bike. Would love the turbo but at 4-5 grand, Ill pass. I thought the nitrous would be a quick solution to my need for speed, thanks for the info I will need to do a thorough search for the proper way to do this and change my shot to a 30hp or less, Lorcan nice site dedicated to the 750 turbo! thanks
