Shifter problem

I just got fire in the cylinders, bonus! so now I have to solve a trans problem. The guy i got the bike from said that the clutch rod broke, they replaced it, but I knoticed that the shifter shaft is stiff , not returning , an is not sticking out of the case enough to get the shifter fully on, does this ring any bells before I start taking things apart? I hate trying to figure out other peoples work.
Thanks

Take a good look at the cover, chances are it's not all the way on.

:woohoo: Lucked out with this one. the stiff shifter was a case side cover put on bass ackward, the second problem of no clutch ingaugement was some meathead had put a yamaha cable on it, I just happen to have a new cable for it an after I installed it it worked great. The scary thing was that this bike was at the local bike guy shop 'highly rated',an was deemed a problem bike that no one was able to fix.

Thanks
