Oil flow chart for 1975 kz400

I’m getting conflicting information on whether there should be oil inside the generator cover. I found a post on here that says there should be while there’s a YouTube video with the guy doing an engine Rebuild says it’s dry in there. Does anyone have an oil flow chart? I cannot find one in my service manual or anywhere else on the web.

probably wet. since the starter chain is under there. kz400.com has a couple of kawasaki factory service manuals for the 400/440. avoid the forums there. possible malware.

So frustrating. I had that shop manual the whole time and just could not find that page...anyway, here is where I'm at. This chart makes it very hard to tell, but I think it shows no oil going to the generator cover. So I pulled my cover off and found a bit of oil in there. Maybe a couple ounces. There are no oil passages in or out; so I'm not sure yet where its coming from, probably seepage around the crankcase. I then started it up and watched for several minutes....no oil coming in. So, I think the youtube channel gearheadgeeks is correct when he says that this area is dry. I'm also not sure why there needs to be a gasket, but hey, there is a gasket on the ignition point cover too.

I guess the starter chain is not used enough to worry about lubrication?

I believe there is an oil drilling in the crank under the starter clutch which is why the starter clutch has a seal. On the bigger motors there is no seal into the generator housing but there is a return passage to the sump. This allows the oil to cool the stator and return to the sump. The 400 doesn't appear to have a return so I believe should be dry

a kz400 fsm says to put an oil drain pan under the generator cover before removing it. not sure if that's for a just in case there's an oil leak or if oil is expected.
