Recommend sealant for Z1 sight glass, please.

A NOS, bare-aluminum aftermarket finned clutch cover, sans sight glass, came to us not long ago.  A Z1-B of ours came with the same aftermarket, finned points, dyno, starter and teardrop clutch adjuster covers already installed when we bought it.  None are chromed.  The NOS finned clutch cover will complete the set, something we've been after for a long time.

We've never installed a sight glass from scratch.  What sealant would be recommended?

TIA.

I've installed many such sight glasses:
Sometimes with a very thin layer of RTV Black all around, but many also "dry" without sealant... I've never experienced a leak! ( Same process like installing a shaft seal!

I've never used sealant, they seem to fit tight enough.  But a thin layer of sealant can't hurt.

They don't need any sealant.
They fit like an oil seal so just wipe the outside with a bit of lube for ease of fitment.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Main reason we asked is because it appears that Mama Kaw used some kind of white, hardening sealant on them.  It would be a Bad Day if one popped out while Ridin'.

The replacement clutch and brake reservoir sight glasses for my V65 Magna were simply glass disks with no seals. The vender's instructions recommended sealing them in place using clear silicone sealant. I never had a problem with leaks after installing them.

All the sight glasses we've replaced are a tight press fit with an o-ring that goes in first. We've done Suzuki, Honda and Kawasaki brake and clutch master cylinders. We bought a bag of ten replacements and used the same ones on all the different makes.

I didnt use sealant on the sight glass. Just installed it with some silicone grease. I thought about a sealant but I thought about the smell of fuel I used to get from the oil. I fixed the leaks in the carbs but i did find a sealant that holds up to fuel. Ive tried allot of them and so I didnt have allot of faith. Permatex 85420 doesnt harden completely but it has sealed many things that leak gas.
