Factory holes in KZ400 block

Factory holes in KZ400 block

Hello Everyone. Can anyone help identify what these holes are doing in the block? I have seem numerous images all with these holes. Just no explanations on why.

Your first 2 pics aren't showing up.

Do the top 3 holes go through?

If I had to guess it would be locating pins for a machining operation. Just a guess though. I've never messed with the smaller KZ's

My big fours have the larger hole in a similar location. I’d say it’s to drain off water or fluids the would collect on the top of the transmission case. Not sure about the 3 smaller

Like Mikaw said, the large one allows water or gas to drain into the chain sprocket area and out onto the ground from there.

The smaller ones are bores for threaded holes on the other side. They hold bolts inserted from the other side. The one to the far right may also hold a hollow guide dowel on the other side as well (shown here in the left red circle).
