Vin help

I just bought what I thought was a kz440. The previous owner states that it is a 1980 model, which would make sense since they stopped making the 400 in 1978. However...the frame tag starts kz400H. Little help here. How do I go about deciphering what year the bike was made? The back of the frame is raised, not flat. Really appreciate any help.

I don't know who told you they stopped making the KZ400 in 1978, but they didn't know what they were talking about. Take a look at the link below. It should help. Ed

That was a typo on my part. Meant to say '80. I matched the frame number and I believe it's a 79kz400h
