Is there a good plan to overhaul it when I have time? Can it just stop working quick/sudenly? 1981 KZ650-D4, with 1981 z750L engine (Wiensco 810 big bore). hardrockminer Offline Sustaining Member Posts: 2927 Thank you received: 1022	A starter motor can be rebuilt. The wear parts are the motor brushes and perhaps the bushing for the commutator shaft. I've changed brushes...it's not a difficult task. I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Rebuilding a starter motor is good therapy. If it ain't broken, start looking for a used starter, all four cyl Z650-Z750 shared basically the same starter with small differences, but they fit.
So ctc one of bike breakers in Norway or Sweden or hunt it down on Blocket, Finn or Ebay.
