1982 kz1000 drops itself into first

Hey all, I have a 1982 kz1000 j model. My issue is when I rev high in neutral, it’ll drop itself into first gear.

Any idea what’s causing this? I’m really hoping it’s the clutch. But I’m at a loss.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Could be worse.

All kidding aside, why would one rev a bike's engine up high in neutral? Ed

What Ed said.

I don't see how it could be the clutch.

I agree. Pull the trans cover and replace all springs.

Is pulling the trans cover splitting the case? Sorry to sound foolish

A quick and short, No need to split the engine case.
