1973 z1 engine numbers?

My friend found a 1973z1 in a scrap yard and there is no numbers on the block except the 903cc. Did they not stamp the early bikes or what? The frame says 73.
Watch it folks,i have sticky fingers when it comes to a nice looking set of handle bars:)

Look up in the header above where it says KZ Information. Then look under Model History.

In there is a bunch of material on the '73 Z1. It says that there were engine numbers. Maybe in a weird location compared to later?

Did your friend pick it up? How much? Any Pics?

KZmarvo, how does your friend know he had found a '73 Z1, Did the frame have a number on it? The block (cases) could have been replaced or engine number removed!

According to Z1 Enterprises:
"Z1 & KZ900 engines have engine numbers stamped on the top right side crankcases on a raised area over the clutch."

73 z1s are oddball, missing oil passage on top case by serial numbers, kinda hard to explain.post picture of top case where numbers are supposed to be when you get a chance.;)

ALl the engines in bikes had engine numbers starting with Z1E-nnnnn

The only cases without numbers are replacement cases (and engines where the engine numbers have been removed by someone).

I had a 1969 sandcast CB750 and it had replacement cases from Honda that came un-stamped. Maybe thats the case with this '73 z1??

I will get a look friday or saturday when he gets it home. He found it in a scrap yard. thought it had wheels but it doesnt. Just a frame and motor, no carbs no wiring.
