Head gasket installation
17 Apr 2017 15:54 - 17 Apr 2017 16:24
I just finished installing my Wiseco 72mm pistons and the cylinder. Now, I'm trying to determine which side of the head gasket goes up or whether it matters or not. I don't see any lettering on the gasket and the metal rings seem to be the same width on either side. Please help. Here's a couple of pics.

I go with the print facing up. Be sure it covers the front of the cam chain tunnel.

Are you filling the O ring groove?

Thanks, Steve! Yes, I'm filling the groove with RTV and trimming with a razor blade. I want to make sure I'm doing everything correctly.

I fill it with high temp copper silicon and install it wet.

I have another question, should the sprocket rubber dampers be trimmed level with the block or will they compress enough?

I leave them be. They need to be tight.

With my one piece head gasket and 1075cc kit, I ground my damper pads a tiny bit but not as much as I've seen written to do.
I filled my o'ring groove with high temp Ultra Black and sprayed both sides of my head gasket with a thin coat of Copper Coat sealer. Assembled it all tacky.
So far, and thousand of miles later, no unusual cam or chain noise and no leaks!!

Thanks for the help!... Got the cylinder head installed and everything torqued to spec. Now it's time to degree the cams....
