Possible causes of wet fouling spark plugs
22 Aug 2016 09:25
Since I've owned my bike, I've had a trouble with wet fouling spark plugs that reek of gasoline. I've never had to troubleshoot an issue like this before and was wondering if anyone had some pointers.
I took it for a rip over the weekend and it would run fine but stall out when I got to a stop light unless I kept the idle up around 1500 rpm
I've already gone to a K&N air filter and BR7ES in hopes of getting more air and a hotter spark. I'm also still running points which look clean

Always remember to keep the rubber side down!

Tight valves, weak coils, timing issues, jets too large, float level too high.

Try a set of ND W22ES-U spark plugs. They made a difference in my KZ650-C1. Ed

i would imagine by what i read on here if you still have points start with resetting them no matter how clean they look. i have a 77 kz650 with a dynatek swap and i was getting spark before i hooked up the starter no im getting nothing.... lol but im sure your problem is your points, even though i hear alot of crap about ngk plugs... but idk i use the stock champions plugs.

Champion plugs didn't come stock on my 1977 KZ650. Do you live outside the US? Ed

reset the points and stick with the stock filter until you get a jet kit. if the bike has sat for any length of time no matter how clean the points look check them, i recommend going with dynatek dyna s system for the bike from dennis kirk. set it and forget it i never have any starting issues now that ive converted, and sometimes i run a little hotter plug just for a little more power if i decide to run av gas.

Maybe check the things Steve said and are your Champions 4s (I personally like em and have used them).... maybe stay away from the resistor NGK's ..... av gas sounds good but if you have a stock comp motor your probably loosing a "little" power instead of gaining over 89 oct...... and I love my Dyna S too.

Re: Possible causes of wet fouling spark plugs
24 Aug 2016 00:02 - 24 Aug 2016 00:04sounds like flooding from carburetor floats not cutting off fuel at correct level.someonewakeuphicks wrote: Since I've owned my bike, I've had a trouble with wet fouling spark plugs that reek of gasoline. Have no idea how points or plugs can cause gas flooding......
