It depends on what size motor you decide on, but main studs may not be necassary. But the list will be long. Just a few will be welded/ indexed possibly balanced crank, what crank will you be running. You will want the trans backcut. New camchain, new idlers, I replaced all the sliders. It was all new. I replaced my clutch and added lock up. If your going thru that much work you wont wanna half ass it. All the new seals. Thats just in the bottom end. You still have the pistons and jug. you will want to know which dirrection your going for the motor. I built mine with low compression. But it will be street ridden. The head will need money put into it also. You will at mininum want to lap the valves if can get lucky enough that they will seal. but will probably should just do a valve job. Then if your building a big motor youll want to port it. Then on to carbs or turbo. Then addressing the situtation of getting the power to the ground. Thats just a start iam sure i left allot of stuff out. But you start to get the picture.

Well I must be honest. I will run the nuts outta this engine. Are there stroker kits for the kz1000. I'm thinking about heavy duty parts from the get go. Hell I may hang a hair dryer on it somewhere down the road. But for now I'm thinking heavy duty studs and lightening the crank. The whole stroker idea excites me a little. I don't want to have a big oil slobbering engine so I'll shy away from the big inch engines.

I havent heard of any "stroker kits" for these motors. The most you could have done if you want a faster rev is go with a 900 crank. I believe they will rev the fastest. Myself i went with a mk11 crank. Its got a heavier rotational mass, but its alot stronger. I Having good hopes that i will be able to seal mine up this winter for good. I got the base gasket to quit leaking, but then it started leaking at the head gasket. i just cant win. But i am confident i can get the head gasket to seal this go around. Thats the first head gasket i had leak on me forever, it seems.

I think I'm going to move towards a 1327. I'm. Ot looking to ride across the country, just go out at night and bust some asses  :silly: :woohoo:
I wanna build it right the first time so I don't have to go back and do things again later.

I have a 1327 with a 77 head. I guess medium (365) cams, 33 smoothies. It has a copper base gasket and did have a copper head gasket which leaked even after trying different options to stop it. I went back to a stock fibre gasket that came with the kit and and no leaks. I do run 3 breathers, one out of the cam cover and 2 out of the breather cap. The head has been set up for dry block so I'll look at that when I pull down to repair a noisy clutch hub.
I also use a 4 brush starter which came off a gpz. Be sure that your rotor is not loose as the bigger slugs will put more load onto your starter clutch and what I continually experienced shearing the woodruff key

I've not had any luck understanding the overheating issue. What specifically causes the big radical engines to overheat ? How do you know it's overheating other than funny noises or a nuclear meltdown. You guys that run big engines on the street run a temp gauge ? Never saw a KZ with a temp gauge.

Its a air cooled motor. And the bigger size engine you run the more heat it produces. I run a temp guage. It seems like the hottest i saw mine was around 425. But you can smell them when they start getting hot. But heat issues is why most people stay with a low compression ratio. I bought my temp gauge off ebay. its a trail tech brand. It just has a wire that hooks onto a spark plug. You just remove the factory washer on the plug and it goes in its place. I then mounted my gauge on my triple tree handle bar hold down bolts. It just runs off a battery.

So what's a normal stock style 1000 temp usually run ? Then let's say a 1327 temp ?
