My brain is leaning towards a 1160 with a hair dryer. I think a well massaged head , good cam combo and a good set of slugs with a turbo and a considerable amount of boost should be as fast as I wanna go. :woohoo:
I sure would like a bigass cc motor but it seems senseless if its gonna overheat and puke oil all the time.

It's not always big CC that go fast, so I would think 1160 would be plenty, especially with a little boost behind it. Even a puny 810cc can move fairly fast if it's been worked by magic fingers. :laugh: :laugh: :laugh: Ed

So when you bolt a turbo on a KZ what becomes the weak link ? Do stock rods like the load they have to carry with a turbo ? Crank , weld it up ? Cam profiles, are any of the cam grinders grinding turbo specific cams ? Do bikes use blow thru carbs with a turbo setup like cars do ? Seems like a lot of hand fabricated parts would be on order for a turbo bike.

I would have the crank welded, trans backcut and studded at minimum. Some people use stock cams and others use other smaller grind cams.

I'm more into sticking with the smaller cc engines and making them SCREAM! It all depends on how well everything works together.
I beat the ever loving snot out of a 1197cc 10.5:1 '77 LTD 1000 with my 903cc KZ900 every single time. The owner of the 1197 isn't happy that mine pulls better all the way across the board.

Sounds like you didnt have the 1197 built or tuned right then.

Transmissions are not studded. Reference was probably meant for studs on upper end to secure the cylinder head and , or studs on crankshaft to secure upper and lower cases together.. Go to APE KZzone to see most of whats available for strong and fast KZ parts

My 810cc started first time every time on the button, idled perfectly and never overheated. You could ride it all day long on pump gas, or put some Sunoco 120+ in the tank, turn up the boost and go giant killing. If you're considering a turbo you could do a lot worse than a GPz750 turbo. Low compression pistons, strong rods, a forged one piece crank, inconel headers, beefed-up gearbox and clutch, electronic fuel injection and an oil scavenge system for the turbo were all standard equipment. Just to get to that point with a KZ is a lot of time, work and money. Why bother when Kawasaki did all the hard work for you?

You can put larger bolts in the cases (by drilling and tapping) above the transmission door. Which adds a little strength for the output shaft area getting hammered at the dragstrip.

So I'm planning on building this 1000. Let's start from the bottom. Heavy duty main studs ? Heavy duty block studs on top ?
