Tach gear cover?
27 Jun 2012 11:35
Hey guys.
With the new Acewell gauge, I am not going to need the mechanical tach cable any more:
So what do I do with the tach gear connection on the front of the engine?
Is there a way to plug the connector without having to use the old tach cable?
Thanks.

I remove the drive unit from the head, take out the seal, clean it up really good and fill the hole with epoxy then re-install.

Remove the tach drive and see you can't find an acorn type nut to fit.

Your welcome, the item will be hard to install. This is by design, they are made to have tight clearance. Clean the hole, lube the plug and two o-rings. I used a plastic headed hammer to install mine. Just take it easy and it will work out fine.

Part came in today and works perfectly. Was a little nervous as it says it is for up to 80 and mine's an 82, but it looked like it would fit perfectly.
You were right. Had to tap it in a little as it was a tight fit. Perfect.
Thanks again 4TheKZ1000
