Convert GPZ 750 engine to a Turbo one?
07 Aug 2011 20:13 - 07 Aug 2011 20:17
Hi,
I have a KZ750-R1 GPZ... how hard it would be to convert the bike to a GPZ 750 turbo model?
Beside changing cams, installing new headers , turbo and injection...
Is the frame different? Would a normal GPZ motor and frame handle the turbo well?
I'm afraid that turbo to wheel clearance is not enough ... is the fork different (angle, longer)?
Just curious how doable it is ?
I might run out of amps with the fuel pump, i don't know just asking
Thanks!
Laurent
EDIT:
Recreating a turbo model for the nostalgia would be my dream

They are kind of rare and unique!

Short answer, if you want to convert to a Turbo then buy a 750 Turbo.
Self serving answer, if you want to convert to a turbo then buy the 750 Turbo motor in my garage
There is actually very little in common between the GPz750 and the 750 Turbo, the Turbo frame uses larger tubes, is reinforced, and is heavier than the GPz750 frame.
The cylinder head, block, and crank interchange, and that's about it. Rods, pistons, transmission, engine cases, oil pump, etc, are all different. The Turbo does use the KZ650 cams though.
I also have a Turbo frame, no title though

The fellow that made the thread mentions he used the turbo engine in a GPz750.

thanks steell , MFolks and Bret88!
I thought that would be easy swap at first... now it's easy as swapping parts between a Honda CB500 and a Suzuki GSX1300RR !! (sarcasm)
Too much difference between those models... yet model name (Both GPZ) is similar. They should have called Insanely Fast Bike (at its time) or IFB 750 Turbo
Regards,
laurent

Story is that Kawasaki never advertised a GPz750 Turbo, apparently it was advertised as Kawasaki 750 Turbo.
I can't vouch for that, but that's what I've read
I do have to laugh every time I see 750 Turbo cams advertised on eBay for big bucks like they're something special

At it's time??????????????
Don't let my hero Lorcan hear you saying that or he'll thump you over the head with his 211 mph 750 Turbo record. There's a video somewhere of that run, shows him breaking the rear tire loose at 160 mph when he shifts into 5th gear.

I meant at it's time stock from factory

Next challenge for Lorcan ... getting to fit this turbo in his bike  :woohoo: :silly:

laurent
EDIT: okay that was not realistic enough... this one is more doable

According to data , this turbo could give you a whopping 8000 hp increase enough to dig in the road :silly:
