flywheel puller

Hello, i need to remove my fly wheel from the 1980 z1000 motor and i bought a 18mm one that was suggested to fit but it does not. Does any one know the correct size of the external sizes. and also the size of a 1976 kz900 motor. i need to do a flywheel swap and the thread sizes are different.

Thanks

The large pinch bolt from the front end forks will remove the old style flywheel.

On my newer style fly wheel I use rear axle or a swingarm pivot bolt. I forget which it is. Roy

In the strictest sense, these engines do not have a flywheel. At one end of the crank is the ignition triggering system (points or electronic), at the other end is the alternator rotor. Like Roy b said, the rear axle will work as a puller on later models, though problems can ensue. Are you absolutely sure that that 900 rotor will fit your 1000 engine?

Im not entirely sure yet. I swapped all the ignition, that fitted right in. If the 1000 rotor doesnt fit i will get the correct one. But i was pretty sure the only different between the 900's and 1000's was a punched out head, and caming was different.

The "J" motors are 18x1.5mm and older motors are 16x1.5. Some of the shaft bikes have a left hand thread 18x1.5mm If you have a 1980 than it should be 16x1.5mm

I think the rotors and crank changed mid '78. The early cranks had a small end and taper fit on the rotor and the late cranks had a bigger end and a woddruff key to secure the rotor from spinning. I also believe that the rotors are completely different on the '80's and up. I could be wrong but I don't think it will work.

The MK-II motors went to the 20A alternator from the earlier 12A. But regardless, it will be either a 16 or 18mm puller
