SeaFoam Questions

I did a search and there is a lot of info here about SeaFoam, but i didnt see a lot of people putting it directly into the gas tank. The bottle says that is certainly ok as long as it is around 1 oz. per gallon. My bike is running fine, but i simply want to give it a treatment for preventative measures with the hope that maybe it will run even smoother afterwards, too. Im not sure what to expect, ive only had this bike for 3 months and ive never had to do a SeaFoam treatment on any of my old bikes.

When you add it to gas does it work well? Do you still have to ride it hard to clear out the white smoke or does it only smoke like that if you add it directly to the carbs? How often should you treat your gas with SeaFoam? Is it 'better' to not add it to the gas tank?

Any info would be helpful, thanks.

The Seafoam can be used jsut like any other fuel additive as the instructions suggest.
you can also just pour it directly into your carbs (fuel line) and run the wngine high idle till it starts to hiccup/die and then let it sit over night to clean things up. In the morning, just drain the float bowls, hook up your fuel (fill bowls) and start cranking. It will fire back to life in about 15 seconds and your done.

Good luck.

I add to gas about every 2 tanks. Stuff is great. I also used it once in the oil for a sticky clutch. I use it in all engines.
Take it from me cuz I found
If you leave it then somebody else is bound,
To find that treasure, that moment of pleasure,
When yours, it could have been.

I add 4 oz. to a full tank of gas in the spring, midsummer, and fall. It won't cause smoke in that ratio. It's best not to add it and then run through the whole tank of gas because it doesn't give it time to work. It's better to add it, run the bike some (like back to home from the gas station) to make sure the carbs are filled with the mixture, and let it sit at least overnight or longer before running it. For all I know it isn't doing anything for me, but I've not had to clean my carbs so I'll keep doing it if only out of superstition. Ed

Last month I was on a flight back from the east coast of Canada and the guy in the seat beside me was saying how he ran a NAPA store and I mentioned Seafoam and he said "great stuff, guys put in the gas tank in snowmobiles, outboard motors, bikes and other small motors". So I figured I'd give it a try. I bought a can which said it contained enough to treat about 35 litres and since my gas tank holds 17 litres I added half a can and filed her up. Did the same again with the remainder of the can. I cant say I noticed any performance difference. I definitely did not notice any smoke. Most years I clean out the carbs in the spring but this year I didn't and I think I'll do what 650ed did and just run through another can later in the year before I put the beast away for the Winter. Call it preventative maintenance.

I put about 5 or 6 ounces in my tank at every oil change (1000 miles). My Dad used that stuff for years and, like the others, I can't qauntify what "good" it does, but have not had any carb issues in a long time with any of my scoots.

I used to use it all the time until they changed the formula a few years ago. Than i switched to Lucas because I found it to work better and it actually also reduces knock in my vehicles on very hot days. I add 1.5oz of Lucas for every 6Gal of gas.

Ive heard the BG44k stuff is like SeaFoam and pretty good, too. I havent heard of Lucas... but im sure they all have the same active ingredients.

I added 3oz. to my last tank of gas yesterday. Maybe it is a placebo effect, but i really thought it ran well to work this morning already. Just smoother operation and started better.
