Z1/KZ 900 owners - Fuel Mileage Poll
02 May 2006 19:40
What is the average gas mileage you get out of your 900? Feel free to list any mods (engine, exhaust, intake, ignition, gearing, etc.).
I get from 26 - 29 mpg. Stock engine except for APE valve guides and springs, Kerker 4-1, Dyna ignition, 26mm Mikuni's, Emgo pods, 14/35 gearing, Lester mag wheels (16" rear), oil cooler, rectifier/regulator combo upgrade.

My "79" 1075 engine goes 89 miles on a tank. Fast miles. My "80" Classic goes 147 miles. They both have LTD Tanks. That's over 45 mph for the Classic. Haven't checked the mileage since WG reworked the carbs. Roy

I have an original 1973 900 Z1 with just under 68,000 miles on it and get around 50 mpg. I don't ride it hard or hot rod it, mostly normal everyday cruising.

'76 KZ900 LTD.
All stock, except for Dyna Coils and Dyna Ignition. I ride mostly freeways (75mph), and my little peanut tank goes on reserve at 125 miles (like clockwork).
That's 3.5 gallons on the side stand, and that's 35.7 mpg.
I've always thought my mileage should be better, but she runs good, and my plugs are tan.

Hey zippoman...no big deal.
Anyhow, I agree with the enjoyment part. I however, also use my bike as a daily commuter and with the price of light sweet crude going up up up, mileage is a concern for me.
I thought I'd start this post as a benchmark and maybe do a few things to my bike to move my numbers up a little.

It wasn't that long ago that filling up your bike didn't really cost much at all..... Now it can be $10 or more if I let it get down there. My old F-150 usually takes about $70 or so to fill. I just picked up a new F-550 with a V-10 for my fire department; had to run it up to Maine so I filled the tank- $100. Makes me happy to be getting 40 + mph on the bikes:cheer:
