nightmare part 5
21 Mar 2011 07:10
well i have made some progress on my bike but now i am more puzzeled than ever , i have my carbs in sync and everything checks out good , bike idels great but will not let me throttel at all , it seems to flood out when i rev the engien have carbs off bike now , and don't see any thing that looks out of place ,timming valves and plugs are right air filter is new ,im thinking that the needle is to short and opening to soon . any ideas or advice will be used , the intakes have raw fuel sitting on them after i take the carbs off , so this tells me that bike is flooding when i twist the throtel. i am at abreaking point on this bike. thanks in advanced .

the parts in my carbs are original not new , yes the diaphrams where seated in the groves ,i have checked and rechecked and i haven't found any reason for the problem ,i do agree with you on the fact that the needle is opening to fast and or soon , is there any way i can slow down the movement of the needle? i have thought of getting longer needels and haven't found any mine are fixed so i can't adjust them. i am also thinking about shimming the spring and placing the shim on the slide with hopes it will make the slide heaveryer so it can't move as fast does this sound like a good idea or a wast of time. thanks for the reply. p.s. i only removed the carbs to clean them, bike ran fine befor removel no parts where used every thing is the same

maybee the spring that holds the diaphtam down has lost some tension.
this is a bit off thee wall but could it be a vacume / reed valve problem ?
what all could make the needle do funny things like open too soon?

maybe......maybe.......maybe......
you should buy a modern set of carbs, or another set. seems lots of owners battle carb problems that never cease.

Not a nightmare----A learning curve.
My thought is, do you have the diaphragm spring retainers on wrong. the needle must be under spring pressure not just the diaphragm or your bike will idle fine but when you give it gas the needle will open to quickly.

very true i have been learning not only patience and deligence i have over 25 years experience on automotive repairs there is not one car engine or transmission i have seen that has no forgiveness, this bike is not very forgiving every thing must spot on there is no short cuts i have seen that would be worth the effort i thought i could handle this bike when i bought it heck i was thinking about restoring it , but now i am skeptical about that idea ,so if this bike holds through the summer. then i'll take the winter to start on the resto.so ihope i didn't offend anyone hear i am very greatful and if i try the resto i may be back lol

Not A problem, I look at bikes and car's differently, in a car when something goes wrong you stop.
On a bike with the same problem you fall off, slide then stop.
