Oil Filter

Let's get the flame ware started!
Kidding, but I am curious who out there runs the Fram Oil Filter that is so abundantly available, and who runs a more expensive filter? Any die hards have an opinion on why I shouldn't use the Fram filter and should instead use (for example) the K&N filter?

OK, I'll start the flaming
- FRAM filters are junk; I use K&N. Here's an unscientific comparison. If you look at the pics and read the comments I think you'll agree that FRAM should not be your first choice. Even though the comparison is done between can type filters for a Honda instead of the open element type used by KZs, I'm quite sure the relative quality of the different filters still applies (for example, compare the number of pleats).

Either from Ron Ayers ($6.13) or Dennis Kirk ($6.74) depending on what else I'm ordering. I generally buy a couple when I place an order for other bits and pieces to save on shipping costs. My KZ650-C1 takes filter KN-401; but here are links so you can look up your bike:

True, but EMGO has only 46 pleats compared to K&N's 63 pleats. It strikes me that that's a considerable difference in contaminant trapping capacity. Considering the cost difference per filter is less than the cost of 1 gallon of gas, even if you change oil and filter every 1,000 miles as I do the difference in cost is insignificant. Ed
Interesting that he liked the Emgo filters.

Keep em coming. I think there's at least 5 brands that haven't been brought up yet.

Napa's page doesn't have Kawi's anymore, just Honda and some other rubbish. I'll have to stop in and see if they still make the filter for my bike and what it runs.
